About the procedure
Correction of standing ears (otoplasty) is one of the operations that can be performed already in childhood, i.e. from the age of 7, considering that the development of the ears ends at that age. Procedures on children up to 12 years of age are performed under general anesthesia, in order to avoid any discomfort for the patients, and patients older than 12 years are performed under local anesthesia. By performing the procedure correctly and reconstructing the ear cartilage, a permanent solution to the problem of "clamping" is achieved.

Procedure after the surgery
After the procedure, a compression bandage is placed around the ears and worn for 24 to 48 hours. At least two weeks after removing the bandage, an elastic band is worn around the ears, especially at night.
After the surgeon's examination, it is necessary, if the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, to perform laboratory tests and an EKG, and it is preferable to perform an internist's examination. If the operation is planned to be performed under local anesthesia, a blood count and possibly coagulogram. On the day of surgery under general anesthesia, you should come to the Polyclinic on an empty stomach (do not eat or drink anything) and bring your medical documentation, while for surgery under local anesthesia it is not necessary to be on an empty stomach. Our staff will give you all the necessary instructions before the surgery appointment to make the entire procedure easier for you.
For otoplasty procedures , anesthesia is usually local, and is given behind the ear, in the so-called incision area. For children under 12 years of age, general anesthesia is recommended to avoid any discomfort or fear. Given the short duration of the procedure itself, the anesthesia process during this operation is also short.
The operation is always performed through an incision placed in the fold behind the ear and is usually invisible. In order to ensure the durability of the results, it is sometimes necessary to reconstruct the ear cartilage. The operative process takes about an hour, is completely painless, and if the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, the patient can leave the Polyclinic twenty minutes after the procedure.
