About the procedure
Male breast reduction (Gynecomastia) correction is an operative procedure performed to reduce enlarged breasts in men. Gynecomastia can appear in some individuals already in puberty (juvenile form), as well as at an older age. Gynecomastia can have a significantly negative emotional impact on men. Some persons with gynecomastia even avoid going to the beach due to their enlarged breasts.
Prior to the operative procedure, it is necessary to perform certain blood tests, an ECG, and sometimes a chest X-ray. Your doctor will inform of you of the required tests.
This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.
Gynecomastia can develop due to excess fat or glandular tissue or a combination of both kinds of tissue. In case of a gynecomastia with predominant fat tissue, the best results can be accomplished by a liposuction. The advantage of this kind of correction is the fact that there are no scars, except for two small incisions of 2 mm, used for the introduction of cannulas for liposuction and the removal of fat tissue. In the predominantly glandular form of gynecomastia it is sometimes necessary to surgically remove the tissue through a semicircular incision in the lower part of the nipple.
After the operation the patient should wear a corset for the duration of 4 – 6 weeks.
